Nathan Patterson responds to Everton star Jordan Pickford after Scotland message
Nathan Patterson has replied to Everton teammate Jordan Pickford, with both at the World Cup currently.
The Scottish defender endured a difficult time in the 2025-26 season under David Moyes.
The manager did not feel like he could trust him, and he made just nine appearances in all competitions, for a total of 446 minutes.
Patterson still got called up by Steve Clarke for Scotland's World Cup campaign, and he played in their opening game against Haiti.
The Tartan Army secured a scrappy 1-0 victory, and the Blues outcast played the final 15 minutes.
The England star will hope that he can help Thomas Tuchel's side to a more convincing result when they play Croatia on Wednesday.
How did Nathan Patterson respond to Jordan Pickford message?
Pickford was asked about celebrating Scotland's goal, and he showed his admiration for his Blues teammate.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast on Monday, he said: "I'm really pleased for Patto. Over the last few months at Everton, he's grafted and worked hard, even though he didn't really get his chance. But, he still put the hard work in and he's now made his debut in the World Cup.
"Stuff like that does put a smile on your face."
Patterson responded on social media, via his Instagram story on Tuesday, simply saying: "Cheers"
He tagged Pickford and added a fist bump emoji.
What's next for Patterson and Everton?
It looks like Patterson is set for a Toffees exit this summer, as Pickford has said he has not had the easiest of times so far.
He has played 67 times since his move from Rangers in 2022, and it does not seem like his playing time will change anytime soon.
A departure makes sense for all parties, the player could maybe revive his career elsewhere, and the Hill Dickinson Stadium side could get a bit of money.
If he continues to feature at the tournament and does well, that may increase the potential windfall for the L3 outfit.
Moyes will hope that is the case, as the more money brought in, the more that can be spent on incomings that will improve his side.
The squad needs a fresh impetus of top talent, to try and qualify for Europe next season, after narrowly missing out this time around.
It is a shame for Patterson that it has not went his way in his time on Merseyside, but it may be the best outcome, if he wants to have a significant career, as he is not going to play often with the Blues.
