Nathan Patterson slammed as 'woeful' after what he did in Everton loss v Chelsea

Nathan Patterson had a game to forget as Everton lost against Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

David Moyes started the right-back against Enzo Maresca's team on 26 April as the Toffees looked to bounce back after the Manchester City loss.

Beto also struggled at Stamford Bridge, and the Scottish manager subsequently made multiple changes at around the hour mark, replacing the striker, Patterson and Jack Harrison.

Before the Scotland international was substituted, he almost gave the hosts an opportunity to double their lead in the second half, but the game ended 1-0.

Chelsea almost score after woeful Patterson pass

Patterson played a woefully short pass to Jordan Pickford against Chelsea, Stuart Pearce says.

The ex-Nottingham Forest defender slammed the right-back for handing Nicolas Jackson an opportunity to score a brace after he had found the back of the net in the first half.

Pearce praised the Toffees' goalkeeper for coming to the rescue and denying the hosts the chance to score another goal.

Speaking on talkSPORT (26 April, 13:44), the Englishman said: "I think it ended up being Patterson who played the final pass back to his goalkeeper that was woefully short. Pickford just managed to recover the situation."

Everton need squad overhaul next summer

Moyes will want Dan Friedkin to invest heavily in the Merseyside outfit's squad next summer to make further progress.

The Scottish manager has done an impressive job at Goodison Park since replacing Sean Dyche, but will arguably need a better squad to take the team into the top half of the table.

At West Ham United, the 62-year-old manager has already demonstrated his ability to succeed, having won the Conference League title with the club.

Jake O'Brien has played right-back for Everton since Moyes' arrival, but the Ireland international is a natural centre-back.

While Patterson had shown some potential in previous seasons, injuries have led to a decline in his form, and an exit next summer wouldn't be surprising.

Ashley Young is also arguably past his prime, and the Toffees could potentially need a replacement for him.

Michael Keane's contract expires soon, and an overhaul in defence may be on the cards at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Friedkin Group (TFG) must strengthen all areas of the pitch in the upcoming transfer window and have a massive task on their hands to give Moyes a competitive team.
