Kevin Campbell was not impressed with what he saw from Everton in the first half against Wolves, claiming they were allowing the home side to dictate the play.

The former Everton striker claimed Sean Dyche will be telling his players to get tight to them and close the gaps after a disappointing first-half display at Molineux.

Campbell suggested it would be a long afternoon for the Toffees if they keep playing the way they have been after Wolves took a 1-0 lead after 25 minutes.

Campbell was speaking live on BBC Sport Final Score [30 December, 15:25] as he shared: "I'm not happy with it [the first half], I've got to say. Wolves look like a really decent outfit, they're one of these teams if you let them play and let them build tempo, it's going to be a long afternoon.

"Everton seem to be a yard off it at the moment, I'm sure Sean Dyche is going to be telling them they've got to try and close those gaps and not let Wolves dictate them."

Everton need to step it up

After a disappointing first half in the West Midlands, Dyche's team will need to step up if they want to take all three points from the game after back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Manchester City derailed their run of impressive form.

Wolves themselves are on a strong run of form, so a visit to Molineux was never going to be an easy task, but the boss would have expected more from his team given the usual tight defensive structure they have shown.

The amount of space and time being afforded to the Wolves attackers will be a cause for concern given Everton's lack of a real threat going forward, as they could allow the game to get away from them if they are to concede more than just the one goal.

Dyche will join Campbell in his unhappiness with that first-half display, but it is up to him to inspire the players and make sure they atone for their errors if they want to turn the result around here.
