Everton Women demolished Liverpool 4-1 on the opening game of the WSL1 campaign.

It was an incredible display as the Toffees came from a goal down to run riot in the Merseyside derby.

However, it will no doubt be Ornella Vignola who takes the headlines from the match after the attacker netted a hat-trick on her competitive debut against Liverpool.

Ornella Vignola becomes first Everton star to net hat-trick vs Liverpool since 1931

Vignola signed for Everton in the summer and has already made herself an icon among the fanbase.

The attacker was excellent on Sunday, and completely dominated the Reds throughout the match.

As a result, Vignola was rightly heavily praised for her display for Everton as she ensured that the Toffees began their campaign with a victory.

  • The attacker is only 20 years old

However, her hat-trick also created history, not only in the women’s game, but also in the men’s.

Sky Sports confirmed on 7 September that Vignola has become the first Everton player since 1931 to score a hat-trick against Liverpool.

The last player to achieve this feat was Everton legend Dixie Dean.

There is no doubt that Vignola’s performance will be remember by Everton fans for a long time.

The attacker completely dominated the match, and was unplayable at times.

According to Fotmob on 7 September, her attacking play was flawless, with the 20-year-old netting with her every shot.

Now, the task for the Spaniard will be to ensure she keeps these performances up going into the rest of the season.

If she can do that, Vignola will no doubt be one of the best signings in Everton’s history.
