Paul Merson makes 'incredible' Everton admission, predicts scoreline v Leicester

Everton will draw 1-1 with Leicester City at Goodison Park this weekend, according to Paul Merson.

Merson issued his latest round of Premier League predictions for Sportskeeda on Thursday (30 January) and says beating Leicester would ensure the Toffees' survival on Saturday (1 February).

Despite punting for the draw, he credited an "incredible" achievement from David Moyes' side to secure back-to-back wins over Tottenham and Brighton.

"Both Everton and Leicester had a great weekend last time out. After consecutive wins under David Moyes, if Everton can now beat Leicester, they will definitely avoid relegation," Merson assured.

"They deserve a lot of credit for what they've done in recent weeks. To beat Tottenham and then follow it up with a win away from home at Brighton is quite incredible considering how they were a few months ago.

"But I just think Leicester will show some fight here, especially after that huge win over Spurs. 1-1."

Everton to 'avoid relegation' with win v Leicester

It would be some statement if Everton were to beat Leicester and secure a third win in a row.

For Toffees fans, it will almost feel like a bygone era under Sean Dyche in which they watched their side countless times completely blunt in attack, salvaging points here and there.

It is now more crucial than ever for the Blues to head into an off-season with their Premier League status intact, with a disaster on the cards which could set them back years were they to head to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium as a Championship club.

It seems an unfathomable thought, and the appointment of David Moyes - a man who needs absolutely no introduction to the way Everton works and the dynamic of the supporters - has been considered vital to hitting the ground running.

Everton are highly unlikely to go the rest of the season unbeaten and end up in the top half, but just to secure themselves as a Premier League club and provide Moyes with an exciting blank canvas is just the ticket.

Continuing that momentum by beating Leicester, as Merson says, would go one huge stride towards achieving the integral short-term aim.
