Keith Hackett has called on the PGMOL to sort out the "total inconsistency" after Everton had a penalty appeal turned down in the win over Leicester City.

The Toffees eased to a 4-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday (1 February) in a game in which one player in particular was truly sublime.

However, Everton felt they should have had a penalty in the first half when Jannik Vestergaard nudged Beto off the ball inside the box.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News about Darren Bond's decision to wave away the appeals, former FIFA referee Hackett said: "This is a rash tackle that has taken out the attacker.

"This is a nailed on penalty kick, 100%. I amazed that neither the referee or VAR have detected this clear offence.

"Come on PGMOL, you have to sort out this totally inconsistent and inaccurate officiating. You have VAR - what are they doing?"

It was only a few weeks back that Everton were in a genuine relegation battle, unable to buy a victory.

Thanks to the superb work of David Moyes, though, the Toffees are now nine points clear of the drop with a game in hand.

As Andy Gray put it, Goodison Park is now very much a fortress with back-to-back wins there over the past couple of weeks.

The decision not to award Beto a penalty was a shocker, but thankfully it mattered little in the grand scheme of things.
