Everton’s defeat to Liverpool on the weekend was filled with controversy.

The Reds saw out a 2-1 victory despite the Toffees staging a late comeback at Anfield.

However, Darren England was criticised for multiple odd decisions in the Merseyside derby, which may have tipped the scales in Liverpool’s favour.

Now, the Premier League have added fuel to the fire in the aftermath of the defeat as embarrassing footage of Virgil van Dijk emerges.

Van Dijk has quickly established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

The centre-back has won numerous trophies at Liverpool, which has helped cement a new golden era at the Merseyside club.

However, the defender is not without his controversies, with van Dijk facing calls to be sanctioned after their 2-2 draw with Everton last season due to his comments after the game.

On top of this, the Netherlands international’s conduct on the pitch often goes under the radar, with the Liverpool centre-back seemingly getting away with strange decisions.

Now, the Premier League has seemingly endorsed this in their recent post on X on 23 September.

  • The Toffees fell to another Merseyside derby defeat on Saturday
  • However, there were multiple strange decisions that went against Everton

The footage shows van Dijk constantly pushing James Tarkowski, despite the Everton defender doing nothing to entice this reaction.

To put it frankly, this post is horrific from the Premier League and feels more like a Liverpool fan account.

Why they have decided to post it is bewildering, as it only shows how much van Dijk gets away with on the field.

When overseeing an account that is meant to be neutral, standards should be high. However, this did not appear to be the case.

Everton need to get revenge against Liverpool at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

While the Toffees weren’t able to get a result against Liverpool on Saturday, they must ensure this is corrected in their next meeting.

Everton are usually strong in the Merseyside derby at home, and with it set to be the first at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, anything less than a point would be unacceptable.

Thankfully, unless the two sides meet in the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup, David Moyes has until April to ensure a result is picked up.

As a result, a win could be extra sweet, especially if it derails the Reds’ title hopes.
