Preston vs Everton: Goodison Park rumours shut down after Carabao Cup draw
The Lilywhites used the Premier League outfit's former home for their first round win over Huddersfield Town.
After the two sides were drawn together for the second round of the competition, speculation swirled that it could be held at the Grand Old Lady, with the Blues as the away side.
David Moyes will be looking forward to facing his former side, while Harrison Armstrong will also be familiar with the opposition.
They will not be playing at the famous ground where Moyes cut his teeth for most of his Toffees spell, though.
That idea has been firmly shut down, and it will not be where the contest is held.
Why will Goodison Park not be used for Preston vs Everton?
Preston used Goodison due to their redevelopment at their usual Deepdale Stadium.
The work on the hybrid pitch installation, which cost £1.5million, will conclude before the opening game of the Championship season on 22 August.
BBC journalist Guilia Bould shared that the clash will be played in the second tier side's home stadium, rather than the L4 one, dashing the idea of a dream return, but a bizarre one too.
She took to X on Monday to answer a question from a supporter, who had posed the question.
She simply said: "Deepdale".
Why Everton need a cup run in the 2026-27 season
Everton need a good cup run, it has been far too long since supporters had one.
They last reached the Quarter-finals of the FA Cup in the 2021-22 season, and have been past the fourth round just twice in the past 10 editions.
In the Carabao Cup, they last reached that stage in the 2023-24 season, where they succumbed to Fulham.
They have exited in the third round in five of the last eight editions of that competition.
In terms of Europe, their last involvement was exiting the Europa League group stages in the 2017-18 campaign.
Fans deserve a trophy, and they have not had one since the FA Cup in 1995, that needs to change soon.
The Friedkin Group need to give Moyes the investment that he needs to bolster their squad, so that they have the strength to compete outside of the league.
