Sara Holmgaard has praised the Everton Women's fanbase ahead of an "important" Super League clash against Bristol City on Saturday (18 May).

The Danish left-back was nominated for Player of the Month for April, having grabbed an assist during a 2-1 win over Brighton and helping the Toffees to secure a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Brian Sorensen's side are currently sat in eighth with 20 points from 21 matches, while Bristol City are sat at the foot of the table with just one league victory.

Speaking to EvertonTV on Saturday (4 May), Holmgaard looked ahead to the match against the Robins: "It means everything. We need those three points so we can have a good ending to a tough season.

"It's really important. Now, we have two weeks to prepare.

"The fans have been amazing. You have made something special here, so I'm looking forward to next season."

The Toffees will be keen to finish the season on a high and extend their unbeaten run to four matches, having beaten Brighton and drawn against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Holmsgaard will also be looking to finish the campaign with another goal contribution after grabbing a goal and an assist in the last three matches.

It is understandable as to why the 25-year-old full-back is excited about next season already, with Sorensen having already put pen to paper on a new deal at Walton Hall Park.

Despite an injury-hit season for Holmgaard, and the Everton team in general, the squad showed great promise, especially when it came to the Women's FA Cup.

They bypassed Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest with ease, beating the latter 7-1, setting up a quarter-final clash against high-flyers Chelsea before narrowly missing out in a 1-0 defeat.

Fans should definitely be excited about what is to come for the Toffees. Under the guidance of Sorensen, and a truly talented bunch of players already in the squad, next season could be very positive.
