David Moyes will hold talks with The Friedkin Group over succeeding Sean Dyche as Everton manager, according to Bobble.

The reliable Toffees outlet reported via X on Thursday (9 January) that Moyes - regularly touted with a Goodison Park return - is due to hold talks with the Friedkins on Friday (10 January).

Everton confirmed the departure of Dyche earlier in the day after weeks of speculation regarding his future on Merseyside.

One name that simply will not go away is Jose Mourinho. However, as reported by The Athletic's David Ornstein [9 January], the Portuguese does not look like being in the running to succeed Dyche.

Moyes is currently the bookmakers' favourite to take charge at Goodison, followed by Mourinho and Paulo Fonseca. Gareth Southgate and Lee Carsley complete the top five.

It will be Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman who take charge of the FA Cup third-round tie with Peterborough United on Thursday night.

Beyond that, the pair may well be tasked with steadying the ship for a few more weeks at the very least, depending on results.

The Friedkins have ultimately taken the decision to sack Dyche and, while it is fair to say that has been coming, the hope is that a plan is in place.

If this report is true and talks are indeed planned with Moyes as early as Friday, that suggests they have some irons in the fire.

Appointing Moyes will split the fanbase, but it would not be the worst appointment in the world. His Toffees connections, plus the fact he is a more-than-capable manager, make him a wise choice.

It is now over to the Friedkins as they already oversee the first managerial change of their tenure, just weeks after officially taking over.
