Sky Sports pundit forced to hit back at Calvert-Lewin, Everton claim live on air

Stephen Warnock was forced to hit back at a claim made by Sue Smith on Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin after she said she has sympathy for the forward.

Attacking woes have been the main concern at Goodison Park this season and Calvert-Lewin has been at the forefront of those with a series of poor performances, leaving question marks over his future at Everton.

His future indeed looks bleak on Merseyside and Smith sympathised with his situation via Sky Sports News [6 January, 12:18 pm] and said: "I feel for the likes of Calvert-Lewin."

To which Warnock wasted no time in hitting back at the claims when he exclaimed: "I'm not having that, Sue. I watch him and I think 'try, run, be difficult to play against'."

Quite frankly, Calvert-Lewin just hasn't been good enough for the Toffees this season and while the style of play adopted by Sean Dyche has a par to play, his own performances need to come into question with the striker having scored just twice in the Premier League.

Of course, a lack of creativity has been a concern but even on days where the Toffees have made chances, Calvert-Lewin just hasn't looked capable of converting them and it has probably made for an easy decision on his future as far as TFG are concerned.

The signing of a striker is a priority for Everton in the January transfer window, or at least it should be if they are to fight off any concerns over a relegation battle.

Supporters need to start seeing their loyalty repaid on the pitch through performances and results and so far this season, it simply isn't happening and that paints a bigger picture on the future of Dyche.

Its hard to imagine the ex-Burnley boss remaining on Merseyside much longer after what has been a dismal campaign.
