David Prutton was left fuming with the decision to disallow Everton defender James Tarkowski's goal against Wolves on Wednesday.

The Toffees centre-back headed home Dwight McNeil's free kick but it was deemed offside for Orel Mangala blocked Mario Lemina off the ball from an offside position.

However, it did not impact the outcome of the contest with Sean Dyche's side winning 4-0 at Goodison Park on 4 December.

Prutton, a Sky Sports pundit, told the Premier League's world feed (4 December, 7:52pm): "You've got three more people also marking Tarkowski. I could understand why it's chalked off. I do not agree with it one bit. Lemina is not touch-tie with Tarkowski. That is completely incorrect. If it's subjective, then leave it to what's on the field. What I've just heard is Lemina is picking Tarkowski. I think that is categorically incorrect."

James Tarkowski's goal for Everton against Wolves should have stood

Prutton is absolutely spot on there.

Three defenders were contesting that header, which Tarkowski won and put the ball into the back of the net.

The argument that Lemina was marking Tarkowski is baffling, to say the least, as these things happen during every set piece.

A "subjective" offside should not even exist and if the VAR did not find enough to overturn it, the goal should've stood.

By asking the referee to go to the monitor, there is undue pressure on him to overturn his decision which he absolutely did.

It was a shocker that could've drastically impacted the outcome of the game and Dyche will have every reason to be upset with it.

There needs to be a clear understanding of what is a foul and what isn't in situations like this.
