Sky Sports pundit wowed by 'brilliant' Dominic Calvert-Lewin moment in Everton v Sheffield United

Sue Smith was left amazed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Everton took a 1-0 lead against Sheffield United at Goodison Park on Saturday (11 May).

Abdoulaye Doucoure headed home for his first goal since December, but it was Calvert-Lewin's impact in the build-up that was the highlight as the Toffees took the lead in the first half.

It was just Calvert-Lewin's third Premier League assist of the campaign, helping the Toffees to take the lead for the fifth game in a row, an advantage they held onto in a 1-0 win.

Speaking live via Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday (11 May, 3:33pm), Smith said: "It's Doucoure with the goal - he's had a couple of opportunities, but it comes from Jordan Pickford. It's a long kick forward and they win the first ball. Dominic Calvert-Lewin's been brilliant in this first half.

"It falls to Dwight McNeil, who plays it through to Calvert-Lewin. He rounds Foderingham who comes out of his goal, then it's a brilliant pick out for Doucoure who's made that late run.

"Really good play from Calvert-Lewin. Doucoure's not going to miss from there."

Considering the striker's form in recent weeks, it will come as no surprise to see him involved in the goals for the fifth time in the last six matches, which has seen him hit the back of the net four times.

Of course, Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injuries this season once again, but he has made a significant comeback after a lot of criticism and fired Everton to Premier League safety.

He now has seven Premier League goals this season, having only registered three up until March, a very poor return for a striker of his capabilities.

Even with four goals in recent weeks, Sean Dyche will be wanting more from his striker if he is to remain at Goodison Park this summer, and there seems no reason why he would leave.

If the 27-year-old can stay fit for a significant amount of time, Everton must begin to think about offering him a new contract, with the striker about to enter the final 12 months of his current contract.
