Stan Collymore fumes at 'self sabotaging' Nottingham Forest reaction to Everton controversies

Stan Collymore has hit out at Nottingham Forest's decision to take to social media and criticise the PGMOL after their 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday (21 April).

The match was full of controversy, with Ashley Young at the heart of three separate penalty calls, prompting the Forest's X account to controversially take aim at the PGMOL.

Furious with the decisions, Forest stated that they "simply cannot accept" the penalty decisions going against them, mooting that Stuart Atwell, who was on VAR for the match, is a Luton Town fan. They added that the club will be considering its options.

Taking to X on Sunday (21 April), Collymore wrote: "We've now entered the stage where official club media channels are tweeting like fan channels.

"We have chairmen, secretaries and directors for official complaints. Grand clubs emoting and shooting from the hip is self-sabotaging and helps no meritous argument. Sorry, it's the truth."

Everton escape punishment against Nottingham Forest

While Forest's hit-out on social media is completely unacceptable, the club do have reason to feel extremely hard done by during the match at Goodison Park.

Young could have easily been punished for three separate penalty incidents, all three of which were deemed fine by VAR. This could have changed the complexion of, not just the match, but also the Premier League relegation battle.

Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil fired home to give the Toffees an all-important win above the dropzone, opening up the gap between themselves and Luton to five points.

Forest are also very much at risk, having also been affected by points deductions this season, and could be playing Championship football next season due to errors from officials.

Of course, human error is part of everyday life. But with three separate situations that went unpunished, Sean Dyche will be extremely glad that his side were on the correct end of the decisions.

With remaining matches against Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United, Everton have a perfect opportunity to save themselves from relegation, rather than wait until their hearing on the most recent points deduction.
