Everton beat Newcastle United 3-1 in another impressive pre-season outing this Wednesday.

The Toffees travelled north to face the Magpies at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, where David Moyes' men enjoyed another win before the start of the season.

Thierno Barry put the Blues ahead with a low, driven effort after getting on the end of a through ball from Harrison Armstrong.

Iliman Ndiaye then made up for a close-range miss by converting a penalty in the 36th minute of the match after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was fouled by Joelinton.

Moyes' side were barely tested in the second 45, and were in control of proceedings for the majority of the game, as Tyrique George's strike in the 73rd minute topped off a productive test.

Despite a late consolation from Newcastle's Jacob Murphy, Everton had multiple top performances from the game, as attention soon turns to a final pre-season showdown against Lille on Saturday.

There have been lots of questions about whether Everton will sign a new striker this summer, but Barry will be hoping to be the main man this season.

He took another step towards that goal against Newcastle after drilling a precise left-footed finish past Lukas Hornicek in the first half.

However, it wasn't just the goal that was impressive, but his overall game.

Barry completed two dribbles in the match, winning six ground duels and three fouls.

He departed the pitch in the 64th minute, and could have even finished his game with an assist, had Ndiaye buried his first big chance.

Tyrique George stakes claim to start opening day

George did enough last season to convince Everton that he was good enough to come back to Hill Dickinson on a permanent basis.

He showed signs against Newcastle that he's ready to repay the club for their faith, scoring a neat right-footed finish that only had an expected goal rate of 0.07.

The 20-year-old looked fearless, showing signs of a player who has settled in even more after returning to the Toffees.

With Jack Grealish yet to return and Dwight McNeil out the door, George has surely staked his claim to start in Everton's opening Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
