Everton must be kicking themselves after watching Dominic Calvert-Lewin's development at Leeds United.

The 29-year-old scored his fifth goal of the season for the Whites in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday.

Since last season, the England international has found the back of the net 18 times for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Everton lost Calvert-Lewin as a free agent in the summer of 2025 and he decided to join Leeds.

During the striker's stint at Goodison Park, he struggled to stay fit, but has found his rhythm at Elland Road.

While the medical department in Merseyside may have done their best to solve the centre-forward's issue, they clearly never found the answer.

How Everton medical team let down Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton should've done more to keep Calvert-Lewin, but it may have been the right step for the striker's career after a stagnant spell at Goodison Park.

Adam Newall has led the Toffees' medical services since 2021, with physiotherapists like Craig Yuill, Joe Hinnigan and Adam Johnson in the senior core.

Despite extensive effort, the Blues' medical team couldn't get the English attacker into his best physical shape.

The Merseyside outfit went as far as changing Calvert-Lewin's car seats and bedding, but to no avail.

Only when the striker decided to address his fitness issues himself did he finally find some consistency at Leeds.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 19 October, Sam Matterface said that after relying on Everton's medical department for so long, Calvert-Lewin finally decided to take matters into his own hands, and he has seen results.

Troy Deeney responded, "Fair play to him. Congratulations for that element.

"But what he has also shown is that if you're anyone who works at Everton, you should be out because you've been blagging it for so long.

"A player could figure it out on his own, and all of you with your metrics get out of there because you don't know what you're talking about."

Why David Moyes will be devastated at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Calvert-Lewin could've been a big part of Everton's new era at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Had the Toffees convinced the striker to stay, David Moyes could've had a regular goalscorer at his disposal.

As things stand, Thierno Barry is the Scottish manager's only natural option up front.

The young Frenchman is a polarising figure at the Blues as he leads the line.

While the 23-year-old has shown plenty of potential in L3, he continues to frustrate by missing big chances in almost every game.

Things certainly would've been much different for the Merseysiders if they had a fit Calvert-Lewin in their squad and they will surely regret letting him leave.
