Troy Deeney takes fresh swipe at Everton as 'tinpot' row escalates
Troy Deeney has labelled Everton as "tinpot" in a new rant.
The former Watford and Birmingham City forward has made his name as a pundit after hanging up his boots, with 165 Premier League appearances under his belt.
He had previously said he could not see England winning the World Cup with Jordan Pickford between the sticks.
The Blues had responded with a meme from the popular TV show Friends, with character saying "seriously, who is this guy?"
Now, his row with David Moyes' side has escalated after a fresh swipe that he has made.
What did Troy Deeney say about Everton?
Deeney was clearly not happy with the Toffees' response to his claims about the Three Lions number one.
He believes that is says more about the Blues' mentality than his own, if they are so annoyed by his comments.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday, he said: “It shows how tinpot their club is, if they have to talk about me.
“The other part to is it, I’ve given my opinion, and what people always seem to do is go ‘oh, he’s playing well now’.
“Are they making memes today? I wish Everton all the best, because I don’t have anything wrong with them.
“But if you are in the middle of your summer business, lads are back to work, you are talking about me, it says more about you than it does about me.”
He should look elsewhere though, as the Blues stopper should not bear the responsibility for the defeat.
Why Pickford should not be blamed for England exit
Pickford can't be blamed for England's exit from the competition, it is as simple as that.
He made three saves in the contest, and completed 55 per cent of his passes, per Fotmob data.
There was nothing that the Hill Dickinson Stadium man could do about the goals, as they were top quality.
Blame should be placed on Thomas Tuchel and the fact that he shut up shop after going 1-0 up through former Finch Farm ace Anthony Gordon.
He brought on defensive players far too early and was willing to settle against a team which is known for scoring plenty of late goals, and has the greatest of all time, Lionel Messi pulling the strings.
It was the wrong strategy, and the buck can't be passed onto Pickford as it was not his idea to change the way they approached the game.
Deeney's rant reeks of sour grapes, and will surely make Pickford even more determined for the upcoming campaign.
He has had plenty of doubters in recent years, and he constantly proves them wrong and outperforms his expected level, so it will be business as usual for the 32-year-old.
