Two Everton players close to Premier League suspension as yellow card rule explained

Everton have had a great start to their campaign and sit sixth in the Premier League table after four matches.

There have been plenty of positives early on, with Iliman Ndiaye on fire for Everton.

Jack Grealish has also earned plenty of praise for his performances Everton as he continues to impress.

However, there have also been potential areas of concern early on, with yellow cards continuously being picked up by David Moyes’ side.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tim Iroegbunham close to Premier League suspension

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been another Everton player who has shone this season.

The attacking midfielder has quickly impressed since signing for Chelsea and netted the Toffees’ third against Wolves before the international break.

However, the 27-year-old, alongside Tim Iroegbunam, have picked up a bad habit of receiving yellow cards this season. 

  • Dewsbury-Hall signed from Chelsea in the summer
  • The midfielder has quickly established himself as star player under Moyes
  • However, Dewsbury-Hall has also already picked up three Premier League yellow cards

The duo have already been booked three times each in four matches, meaning they are only two cards away from a suspension.

Therefore, if they each pick up a yellow card against Liverpool and West Ham, both Dewsbury-Hall and Iroegbunam will be suspended for the tie against Crystal Palace at the start of October.

When does the Premier League's yellow card rule reset?

As stated above, when a player in the Premier League is booked five times, they receive a one-match suspension. 

However, there is a cut-off for this, with it only being able in the first half of the season.

Therefore, if Dewsbury-Hall and Iroegbunam avoid picking up another two bookings between now and game week 19, they can be yellow-carded again and avoid a suspension.

However, this could prove to be a big task for the Everton duo, considering they will both have to potentially play another 15 matches while avoiding two cards.
