Gary O'Neil will arrive at Wolves' training ground on Thursday morning as he attempts to turn things around following a 4-0 defeat to Everton, Henry Winter has said.

His struggling side were thumped at Goodison Park on 4 December, with goals from Ashley Young and Orel Mangala compounded by two own goals from Michael Dawson.

While Sean Dyche is also under pressure on Merseyside, Wolves sit 19th in the Premier League table after 14 matches, with O'Neil facing the prospect of being sacked after 16 months in charge.

Writing via his personal blog [5 December], Winter said: "O'Neil is most under pressure because of the away following's angry reaction to him during and after Wolves' embarrassing 4-0 loss at Everton.

"'Sacked in the morning,' was one of the more polite chants aimed at O'Neil. A decent man in a brutal profession.

"O'Neil still went over to applaud them and he will go into the training ground this morning determined to turn things around but his post-match comments to local radio sounded almost defeatist by O'Neil's usually positive standards. The clock ticks loud."

Gary O'Neil to face Wolves exit after 4-0 defeat to Everton?

Football is a brutal sport and O'Neil may be about to find that out, though he does have experience of that following his surprise sacking at Bournemouth in the summer of 2023.

Wolves have been struggling in the Premier League this season so far, only claiming victories against Fulham and Southampton in back-to-back matches recently.

Few rival fans will be wishing for O'Neil's exit at Molineux Stadium, having done so much to earn the respect of those around him, but he could be in his last moments as the boss.

Dyche will certainly be hoping that the 4-0 win provides him with a little more time to save his job at Goodison Park, with the Toffees only five points above the dreaded relegation zone.

With upcoming clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest during the festive winter period, it could be a frustrating Christmas for Dyche and the Toffees.
