David Moyes could have the Scotland job in the back of his mind after Steve Clarke's resignation.

The Tartan Army were sent crashing out of the World Cup after failing to qualify for the knockout stages.

Clarke's men finished third in Group C and were unable to progress as one of the best third-placed teams, finishing 11th in that respective table, with goal difference their downfall.

The Scotland boss was then quick to make the decision to step down, penning an emotional message to fans and players after a seven-year stay.

However, he's not the only Scottish manager who's come under the microscope this year.

Moyes was unable to guide Everton to their goals last season, and now there are clear reasons why the 63-year-old may be open to finally managing his nation on the big stages.

The arguments in favour of the Everton boss taking the job

There have already been calls from Scotland fans for the Scottish FA to appoint Moyes, with Ange Postecoglou another name wanted.

It's not known when a decision will be made, as other exits of those in power could soon follow Clarke after Scotland's recent failures.

Moyes could be a serious contendor for the job for multiple reasons, and one of them is his age.

The 63-year-old has been a manager since the late 90's and despite having seven jobs in the game, he's never managed Scotland.

ESPN previously reported that Moyes would be open to managing Scotland after being asked the question back in 2017, and he may not have many better chances to make the move.

There's every chance that if he did take up the post as Scotland boss, it could be his final gig in the game.

Not only that, but the former West Ham manager received a fair bit of stick at Hill Dickinson last season, with some Toffees fans wanting him out of the club.

Moyes has felt that before, after bringing success to West Ham, and since hearing the thoughts of some Everton fans, he may value himself as more than that moving forward.

If Scotland offered him the job, he could say yes.

The reasons the move may never happen

Moyes has been linked with the job various times throughout his career, but timing has always been a key reason for the move never happening.

Everton are now making progress with their summer transfer plans and are set to announce the signing of Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney, with Moyes a driving force behind the deal.

If the Scot were to abandon ship now, it would make for terrible timing and would go against everything he's said in the past.

Moyes may also want to finish his career on a high, and it's hard to see how taking the Scotland job can end in any form of silverware success.

It's just speculation right now, and though Moyes recently said he wouldn't jump ship right now, you never know in football.
