Gennaro Gattuso has emerged as a surprise contender for the Everton job on Thursday afternoon.

Italian outlet Calciomercato has reported that the AC Milan legend could be in line for the vacancy after leaving Fiorentina this morning.

Gattuso left the club only 23 days after taking charge, and that could open the door for him to move to Merseyside.

The Italian icon has close links to the British game after his time with Rangers towards the end of his playing career.

Gattuso has enjoyed a short career in terms of management so far, sticking with Serie A clubs, including Napoli.

Tottenham are also looking for a new manager and after their talks with Paulo Fonseca collapsed on Thursday too.

Everton

Major twist.

Something new appears to be happening every single hour at Goodison Park.

Rafa Benitez looked all but set to take over in Merseyside, days after it was Nuno Espirito Santo was the one ready to take charge.

Farhad Moshiri, Marcel Brands and Bill Kenwright all have different ideas and favourites for the role, and this new development could have set pulses racing.

Gattuso was never going to be on the market given he only took the Fiorentina job three weeks ago, but his shock exit once again opened the door.

Everton appear to have raised their eyebrows, and it looks as though they are set to challenge Tottenham for his appointment.
