Everton are considering keeping Armando Broja until the summer with his latest injury not expected to be as bad as first thought, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper shared a twist on 1 February as a return to Chelsea was mooted, the Albanian's initial three-month prognosis is now only expected to be half that time.

David Moyes is on the hunt for a striker before 3 February with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hamstring issue set to rule him out for even longer than Broja, but the Blues have so far been unsuccessful.

Everton face striker crisis as transfer deadline approaches

The standout item on Moyes' to-do list upon taking charge midway through the winter transfer window was to find the Blues a new striker, but they ended January in a weaker position than they started.

Sean Dyche's sacking on 9 January came largely due to the lack of potency in the final third, but at least Moyes had Broja, Calvert-Lewin and Beto at his disposal upon taking charge two days later.

Calvert-Lewin – whose position as the Toffees' first-choice centre-forward had been maintained under Moyes as well as Dyche – being ruled out long-term could end his time at Goodison Park prematurely.

Furthermore, Broja's fitness throughout this season has never been reliable, while Youssef Chermiti also remains on the sidelines and Beto was on the brink of a move to Serie A several times last month.

Adding reinforcements up front at a price which won't harm the Blues PSR-wise looks a difficult task, and as a result, their poor record in front of goal looks set to continue thanks to their sheer lack of depth.
