Aston Villa respond as despairing Everton make Tammy Abraham approach

Everton's desperate search for a new striker saw them turn to Aston Villa's Tammy Abraham on transfer deadline day.

The Toffees sanctioned Beto's sale to Fiorentina on Tuesday ahead of the 11pm deadline.

That was due to the fact a £40million deal looked to be in place with Monaco to sign Folarin Balogun.

However, Balogun failed his Everton medical and that deal does not look likely to happen.

David Moyes' men quite simply need another new attacker to go alongside Grealish, with Abraham's name mentioned.

What's Tammy Abraham's stance on Everton transfer?

Everton have failed with an attempt to sign Joshua Zirkzee on loan from Manchester United.

However, it may well be that Zirkzee was not their first option when complications surrounding Balogun started to arise.

As per The Times' Paul Joyce via X, Everton made a loan enquiry for Abraham prior to the Zirkzee approach.

However, Abraham decided he would rather stay at Villa Park.

It is a rather desperate turn of events for Everton, but all hope is not lost yet.

Everton could yet salvage deadline day

With Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam also departing on deadline day, plus Nathan Patterson, Everton fans are in desperate need for positive news.

Grealish returning on loan is of course a positive, but it will not paper over the cracks.

Zirkzee will not be arriving at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but Joyce and others have suggested the Balogun deal is not dead and buried just yet.

It may well be he joins after the 11pm deadline, but if not, Moyes will be furious with the way things have panned out.
