Everton are lurking to sign Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported in its print edition (page 59, 27 January) that the England international wants to leave Stamford Bridge on loan.

It states that the Blues face competition from Premier League rivals West Ham, Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old has made just one appearance for the Londoners this season in the EFL Cup but has not featured in the top flight.

Chilwell would be an astute signing for the Blues despite his lack of game time under Enzo Maresca this season.

The Toffees' current options at left-back are Vitalii Mykolenko and Ashley Young so an upgrade is necessary if they want to move further up the table.

The England international has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge this campaign but made 13 appearances in the 2023/24 season.

If David Moyes can make Chilwell rediscover his best form then the Blues could benefit from a temporary deal for the Englishman.

Whether the Toffees can persuade the player to move to them over the rivals for his signature remains to be seen but they would have to get Armando Broja off the books first as they currently have the maximum of two domestic loan players allowed.

One thing is certain, the Goodison Park outfit needs to upgrade their current options in the long term.
