Brentford stance emerges on Everton-linked Frank Onyeka as cut-price loan deal wanted
Brentford will not let Everton target Frank Onyeka leave on loan this month, according to The Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella.
The journalist reported for the publication on Sunday (28 January) that interested clubs will need to sign the player permanently.
Kinsella added that Girona, Reims, Fulham and the Toffees are all keen to sign the midfielder in the January transfer window.
“Brentford are weighing up multiple approaches for Frank Onyeka but will not let the midfielder leave on loan for a Premier League rival," they wrote.
"Fulham and Everton are also interested, but Brentford are unwilling to help a domestic rival by allowing a cut-price loan deal while just six points above the relegation zone themselves.”
Blow
The stance from Brentford is certainly a blow to Everton, who are seemingly keen on a loan deal for the player as opposed to a permanent one.
Onyeka has played a key role for the Bees this season, with the 26-year-old having made 18 appearances in all competitions.
He is also a major part of the Nigeria national team, with the Brentford man currently a central figure behind their Africa Cup of Nations push.
But speculation regarding his future in West London looks set to continue right up until deadline day as clubs look to agree a loan deal for the player.
Everton and Fulham are, however, very likely to be let down in their pursuits, with Brentford unsurprisingly unwilling to let Onyeka leave for a direct rival.
The Cottagers are just two points ahead of the Bees in the Premier League table, with the Toffees five points behind Thomas Frank’s side.
