Brooke Norton-Cuffy is one of the candidates to join Everton as a new right-back signing, but their dallying may prove costly.

The Toffees are in need of reinforcements in that area, with Seamus Coleman departing the L3 outfit and Nathan Patterson not in David Moyes' plans.

The utilisation of Jake O'Brien on the wide right of defence has been a decision bemoaned by fans, with the Irishman offering little going forward.

So, the arrival of Norton-Cuffy, or even any natural right-back, would be welcomed this summer.

With the transfer window officially open, the Blues must be quick to get their deals done, as they could run into multiple problems.

And with the Genoa defender, they could be about to face their first of the of the summer window.

Why Everton must make quick decision over right-back target

Norton-Cuffy is not the only name on Everton's radar, with strong interest being mooted around Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Additionally, the Ivory Coast's Guela Doue is another name mentioned as a signing for the Toffees.

However, as the options continue to emerge, they could be dwindling just as fast.

According to reports from Tuttomercato, Norton-Cuffy is now on Fiorentina's agenda.

With Everton's number one target at right-back not yet known, the Toffees could run the risk of being forced to make a decision.

If Norton-Cuffy does move elsewhere before the L3 outfit makes their choice, the move over their next right-back could then ultimately be made for them.

It would not be an ideal situation for Everton, who last year, after waiting so long for number one striker target, Liam Delap, ended up being forced to move elsewhere for Thierno Barry.

While the Frenchman has outperformed the English striker, the Toffees fanbase felt it was a panic buy after missing out on various other targets as well.

Why Everton cannot use World Cup as excuse

While Everton may feel it is best to wait until after the World Cup to conduct business, particularly for those targets at the tournament, there should be no excuses.

Plenty of transfers are being confirmed elsewhere during the competition, with Marc Cucurella signing for Real Madrid despite being at the 2026 World Cup.

Transfers can clearly be confirmed and sealed. With competitors entering the market for Everton's targets, they cannot afford to wait or else they risk being left with limited options.

The Toffees must make a definitive decision over their targets and start laying the groundwork now.
