Emil Holm: Everton have decision to make as Serie A defender’s transfer priority emerges
Right-back is a position that fans have been questioning, with doubts over whether Jake O’Brien should be deployed out of position.
The Irishman’s physical stature makes him more suited to playing in central defence, and he does not quite have the qualities to be a forward-thinking fullback.
Meanwhile, Nathan Patterson is clearly not well appreciated by manager David Moyes after numerous snubs.
Swedish international Holm would certainly solve those concerns and the player’s preference has now emerged.
Why Everton have open door to push for Emil Holm transfer
Time will tell who Everton end up with at right-back, but Holm is certainly one of the many options on the market.
The Swedish international spent the second part of last season on loan at Juventus but is set to return to Bologna.
The Serie A outfit are likely to ship him back out with him failing to prove himself for the Italian club.
According to Sport Quotidiano, Holm appears to be prioritising a potential move to England, and with Everton holding previous interest, that surely puts them in the driving seat.
The report shares: “His agents are working to see if they can bring in offers: in this case, too, England is top of mind, given that the Swede was previously pursued by Everton and Brighton."
The Blues are also looking at Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who could be another option at right-back. The DR Congo international offers Premier League experience.
How much would Emil Holm cost Everton?
Finances, of course, are important, and Holm would not take too much out of the transfer budget. Juventus had a buy option for the Swedish international set around £12.9million which could rise to £15.5m.
Bologna may not have much room to negotiate around that fee, with the Toffees using that as the absolute maximum.
After failing to get Holm off their books, Moyes’ side could use that as reason to potentially lower the fee as well.
Holm would be slightly more expensive than the £10m being touted for Wan-Bissaka but the Swede is two years younger.
