Everton: Aaron Wan-Bissaka pursuit borders on parody after lengthy wait for new right-back
Everton seem to be keen on signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer following West Ham United's relegation to the Championship.
However, this is developing into a transfer that would be quite comical after the latest valuation of the defender.
Initially, it was thought that the Toffees may have to spend £10million on Wan-Bissaka, but now it's said that West Ham want double to sanction his sale.
While the Hammers upping the price tag of their player makes sense, amid a plan to make £150m in sales this summer, it does not mean that the Blues need to make a move.
David Moyes seems to be an admirer of Wan-Bissaka, though there is comedy in this transfer wish for different reasons.
Everton fans have waited years for new right-back
Everton fans have been pleading for a new right-back, as Jake O'Brien has been forced out of position to cover on the right in the last two seasons.
Long-serving club captain Seamus Coleman has now left the Blues, which means it's possible that two new right-back replacements are needed.
Nathan Patterson has struggled with a horrible injury record since signing for the Blues, and to add to that, Moyes doesn't seem keen, with Rangers and Sevilla monitoring the situation.
With that said, Everton fans have waited years for their club to sign a real top-quality right-back, and after multiple windows of excitement from linked names, they could be left with Wan-Bissaka of all players.
It's Everton parody at its finest, especially if they are foolish enough to spend £20m on a player who is definitely not worth that amount.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka won't be written off yet, but caution remains
Wan-Bissaka proved to be one of the best 1v1 defenders in England during his time at Manchester United, but may have fallen victim to the overall regression of West Ham while at the London Stadium.
A fresh change may be what's needed for the 28-year-old Championship star, who should really be at the peak of his powers right now.
The initial £10m reports seemed reasonable for Wan-Bissaka, but if the Toffees do spend double that amount, his signing will rightly come under the microscope.
That's mostly because of the fee, as it feels like the player himself has shown his ceiling in the Premier League, with his weaknesses known by many sides.
Wan-Bissaka would not be written off early, but it's certainly not a name that will fill Evertonians with lots of hope and excitement.
