Everton: Amadou Onana Bayern Munich transfer update emerges after 2nd points deduction

Bayern Munich are considering an "expensive" move to sign Everton star Amadou Onana, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via Twitter on 8 April, in the wake of a second points deduction being imposed on the Toffees, that the Bavarian giants have been long-term admirers of the Belgian and want a new midfielder this summer.

The situation is not yet advanced as they are still in the process of finding a replacement for exit-bound manager Thomas Tuchel but a projected price and contract length is already in the offing, at three years and a fee of up to €70million [£60m].

Plettenberg wrote: "Amadou Onana | The 22 y/o central midfielder from Everton has been on the list of FC Bayern for a long time - and he still is! especially since a new defensive midfielder is supposed to arrive in the summer.

"Bayern are aware of his development, quality and physical attributes. He would be a future signing.

"However, the topic isn't hot yet, partly because the new coach is still being sought. And: He will be quite expensive! The expected price: €60-70 million. Contract until 2027."

Bayern will join the list along with Barcelona and most of the Premier League's big spenders as possible threats to Onana's future on Merseyside.

Having already been hit by two points deductions for consecutive profit and sustainability breaches, and facing the risk of another one next season, it is looking increasingly likely that at least one major sale will need to happen before 30 June.

Selling Onana would arguably be more palatable than losing Jarrad Branthwaite given the drop off behind each in the squad and the suspicion that Everton don't see the best of the Belgian international in Sean Dyche's system.

But it is anything but a joyful prospect for Evertonians that star player departures are on the cards when the squad is struggling already.

But with there seemingly no let up to the misery of the off-field tribulations in the face of an ongoing financial mess it may be inevitable.
