Everton: Bids submitted for Brentford star Frank Onyeka, loan-to-buy decision made

Brentford have turned down bids from Girona and Reims for midfielder Frank Onyeka amid interest from Everton in the January transfer window, according to the Standard.

The newspaper reported on its live transfer tracker on Wednesday (31 January) that La Liga club Girona's loan offer included an option-to-buy clause worth up to £17million in performance-related add-ons, while French outfit Reims made a similar proposal that could have seen the Bees earn up to £20million for the Nigerian international.

It added that the Toffees and Fulham have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old, but the West Londoners don't want to strengthen a Premier League rival in the loan market.

This is definitely not a deal that Everton should be wasting any time on as it's quite clear that they won't be able to bring in Onyeka this month.

There has been increased interest in the midfielder following his recent performances for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But with Girona and Reims seeing more than reasonable loan-to-buy offers turned down, the Toffees simply can't compete with the money being offered at this moment in time.

It sounds as though Brentford have also made it quite clear that they won't be allowing him to join another Premier League club anyway, so it's time to move on to other targets.

Sean Dyche will no doubt be working through a list of possible loan options that he could bring in late in the window to give his squad a boost heading into the next few months.
