Everton can benefit from Ben Godfrey to Rangers amid details of transfer agreement
Everton will be keeping an eye on Rangers next season if they complete a deal for Ben Godfrey.
Godfrey, who was purchased by the Toffees back in 2020 from Norwich City for £20million, ultimately struggled to make it in L4.
The Englishman was then sold by the Blues in 2024 to Atalanta in a deal worth £11m.
However, Everton's possible income from that sale could still rise and reports over Godfrey's future have boosted those chances.
The deal between the Glasgow and Serie A sides could now hand Everton an unexpected financial boost.
But they may need to have some patience.
Ben Godfrey could still hand Everton a favour amid Rangers transfer
When Everton sold Godfrey to Atalanta, the Toffees did include a sell-on clause in the transfer.
This was confirmed by the Liverpool Echo back in 2025.
While over the years it had looked as if the Englishman could land the Blues that windfall, now appears to be the best chance.
According to reports from the Daily Record, Godfrey is set to sign for 55-time Scottish champions Rangers.
However, for Everton there is both good and bad news. Firstly, the bad news is the deal is just a loan move.
But Sky Sports Italy journalist Luca Bendoni has reported that there is an option to buy.
So if Godfrey impresses for Rangers, who are set to compete in the Europa League, the Toffees could land that much-awaited windfall next year.
Of course, it is not ideal to be waiting that long, but nonetheless, if the money arrives, it will be a welcomed boost.
And if the former Toffees man performs well, he could hand his former club a favour.
What history suggests about Everton's agreement
While Everton's sell-on clause for Godfrey has never been publically disclosed, there is a few examples that could detail what was agreed.
Back in 2023, a year before Everton sold Godfrey, Anthony Gordon was purchased by Newcastle with the Blues inserting a 15 per cent sell-on clause on profit in the deal.
Additionally, in the same year, Niels Nkounkou was sold to Saint-Etienne with a 30 per cent sell on clause based on profit made.
So, the Toffees have a history of adding these clauses based on profit, so they may be hoping that Godfrey moves to Rangers for more than £11m.
