Guela Doue is one of Everton's top targets at right-back.

However, they could be forced to accelerate their plans over the Ivorian amid the latest out of Inter Milan.

David Moyes' side are desperate for a natural right-sided fullback and Doue would certainly be an exciting option.

The days of Jake O'Brien at right-back must be over if Everton want to push for the European positions.

One competitor for the signing of Doue had looked to be out of sight as Inter Milan moved forward with the signing of Anan Khalaili.

But that transfer has now seen quite the twist with attention potentially turning to Doue in the coming days.

How Inter Milan could affect Everton's interest in Guela Doue

Inter Milan are looking to replace Denzel Dumfries at right wing-back and Khalaili emerged as their top target.

A deal was agreed for the 21-year-old and he has since undertaken medical tests ahead of the signing.

However, issues have since arisen in those tests and as more testing gets underway to determine the full extent of the reported issue, the deal could be in jeopardy.

Now, according to Calciomercato, should Khalaili not be able to move forward with his move to the San Siro, then Inter will move their sights.

And those would be set on Strasbourg's Doue, who is Inter's "top pick" as an alternative.

The Athletic have previously shared that Doue is a player that Everton have scouted extensively and he is an option for the Merseyside club this summer.

So, if Doue is a player wanted heavily at Hill Dickinson, Everton may need to begin moving quickly, as Inter's situation with Khalaili is a warning sign.

Why missing out on Guela Doue could become a frustrating Everton transfer regret

Doue's expected £40million price tag has previously emerged as a potential obstacle in their pursuit.

But, the right-back position is a role that has long needed reinforcements over the years.

Doue is clearly a standout player in his position, otherwise Inter Milan would not be looking in his direction.

If they miss out on Doue, they may be looking back in a couple years thinking they could have one of the best players of that position in the world.

Although £40m is a steep price, he could be Everton's right-back for the foreseeable future.

And if the Toffees can agree to an acceptable payment structure, it may not limit their current budget this summer as much.

They simply can't afford to miss out on another right-back.
