Everton could turn their attention to Tottenham's Djed Spence to solve their right-back problem.

David Moyes was forced to utilise centre-back Jake O'Brien in the position last season.

The Scottish manager decided that he could not trust Seamus Coleman or Nathan Patterson, despite them being natural full-backs.

Spence has now been named as a potential target for the Toffees, as they look to finally address the shortcoming.

Whether they could pull a deal for the England World Cup star off remains to be seen.

However, it is a very interesting name, that we have not seen mentioned recently after interest in 2021.

Who is on Everton's right-back shortlist?

Everton could make a move for Spence, as Guela Doue is expected to cost too much.

A report from The Times on Thursday claims that the Ivory Coast star is valued at £40million and implies that the Blues would not be willing to pay that.

It names the Spurs star, Raoul Bellanova and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as alternatives to the Strasbourg man.

The report adds that bringing in a right-back is one of the "priorities" for Moyes and Everton this summer.

Why Spence is the best option for Everton

Spence would be the best possible signing for the Toffees out of those options, as he already has plenty of Premier League experience to his name.

He has featured 59 times in the top-flight of English football, and has excelled recently, earning his berth in Thomas Tuchel's squad while also playing 10 times in the Champions League.

Whether Roberto De Zerbi would be willing to sell is a different matter, he played in six of his seven games in charge in North London, but started just twice.

Four of those appearances have come at left-back, and he may well want to play in his natural position, which Spurs probably can't offer him.

He would be a guaranteed starter for the L3 outfit, in his favoured spot on the pitch, so that may prove tempting if interest from Moyes' side materialises into something more concrete.

Spence would be a brilliant addition to the Blues' squad, with the experience and quality to take them to the next level.

He is exactly the kind of player that the Friedkin Group and the recruitment team should be looking to bring in.
