Everton face being hijacked for Richarlison deal as Folarin Balogun complicates transfer picture

Everton's chase for Richarlison and Folarin Balogun may not be as simple as first thought.

The Toffees have reportedly submitted a bid for Balogun and have agreed a deal in principle with Tottenham for a Richarlison return.

Reports on Sunday claimed that if a double signing was going to happen, Beto would have to be sold.

That situation has come to fruition, but the Blues swoop for both strikers may not materialise.

What could cause an issue for Everton as they chase Richarlison and Folarin Balogun?

Everton supporters may have dreaming of both forwards arriving at the Hill Dickinson Stadium before the 1 September deadline.

However, a report from The Times' Paul Joyce on Monday claims that the L3 outfit are unlikely to sign the pair, and have made their move for Balogun, who they value at less than £40million.

It states that Richarlison is mulling other offers, and his own doubts over a comeback to Merseyside, amid the Balogun interest, has complicated the picture.

The double signing seems like it will not happen, and it is understandable that the former Goodison Park hero has concerns.

Why are Richarlison's doubts about Everton return valid?

The fact that the recruitment team are targeting an alternative will not give him confidence about a starting berth.

He featured 43 times last season, with 12 goals and five assists in all competitions, so will feel like he deserves to be in the team more often than not.

Roberto De Zerbi has previously praised him, saying that he was "unbelievable in terms of attitude and behaviour".

The idea of a return to the place where he is idealised likely appeals, but the potential lack of playing time could be a big factor.

It seems like supporters will have to give up hope about a double attacking addition, unless the Brazilian has a change of heart in the coming days.

Maybe, if the Balogun deal does not go ahead, then Richarlison could come back.
