Everton goalkeeper Billy Crellin is on the verge of heading out of Goodison Park on loan, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist reported via X on Friday (30 August) that the 24-year-old is set to join League Two outfit Accrington Stanley.

Crellin was signed by Everton in January 2022 but has been unable to make a first-team breakthrough with the Toffees and will now head locally to the North-West outfit.

Billy Crellin loan deal makes sense for Everton

Crellin has a contract at Goodison until June 2025 and this loan deal means there is every chance he will leave the club permanently at the end of the season.

It makes perfect sense for the 24-year-old to go and get some more competitive football under his belt and either put himself in the shop window for a full move or to show Sean Dyche what he can do.

The truth is that for the foreseeable future the number one berth at Everton is locked down by Jordan Pickford, who has been an excellent servant for the Toffees during his time at the club.

With Joao Virginia providing able back-up to the England shot-stopper and Asmir Begovic having returned to the club to bolster the goalkeeping ranks, it was obvious Crellin would not get much of a look in at Everton. It is a deal that suits all parties and hopefully Crellin can have a good spell at Accrington.
