Gabriel Jesus continues to be linked with a move to Everton, and the general feeling over a possible transfer is simply, why?

Yes, Everton are in need of another centre-forward, with Thierno Barry and Beto both having concerns over consistency.

However, if the Blues are going to upgrade in that area of the pitch, they should not add another striker that would provide similar issues.

Jesus is a proven Premier League forward, coming in with 243 appearances, and in eight of his last 10 Premier League seasons, he has produced double digits in terms of goal involvements.

So, while it may not be attacking contributions that are inconsistent, the Brazilian provides a clear worry in another area of the pitch.

Gabriel Jesus’ injury record makes Everton transfer a no-go

While he may be consistent, and while he may have often played second fiddle at Manchester City and now Arsenal, Jesus has only played more than 30 Premier League games in a season once.

That came in the 2019-2020 campaign, where the Brazilian international scored 14 goals and achieved eight assists in 34 appearances.

However, he has also picked up 20 separate injuries since joining the Premier League according to Transfermarkt.

In total, he has missed 137 games since making a career change to England, which on average sees him miss 13.7 games per season.

On the injury front alone, it is a deal that Everton must simply avoid at all costs, no matter what the price or package of a deal is.

Availability is one of the best traits a footballer can have, and Jesus has little of it.

Why Everton cannot use Dominic Calvert-Lewin as proof Jesus deal could work

There may be some suggestions that a change of scenery for Jesus could ease his injury issues as it has with Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Leeds.

However, using one-off examples cannot be the basis for changing a stance on a deal.

Everton have already dealt with the blows that come with trying to rely on an otherwise unreliable forward, and going back to that would be incredibly foolish.

There are plenty of younger and fitter strikers on the market that would be just as influential as Jesus for Everton.

Talks of a transfer should simply not be entertained at all.
