Everton have joined the transfer race to sign Bologna sensation Lewis Ferguson but face tough competition ahead of the summer transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

The online source reported [19 March] that the Toffees are not the only Premier League outfit to send scouts to Italy, with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brentford and Fulham keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, whose form has "turned the heads of clubs from around Europe".

It is understood that the former Aberdeen midfielder would only contemplate a move to England if it were right for his career, with the main ambition of achieving Champions League qualification with Bologna.

Could Everton sign Lewis Ferguson in the summer transfer window?

The possibility of Ferguson, whose uncle Barry played for Rangers and Birmingham, choosing the Toffees over the other interested parties could very much hinge on whether the club can achieve Premier League safety for the third consecutive season.

Everton have been hit with a six-point deduction due to a Profit and Sustainability breach, having had their original 10-point deduction reduced to six after an appeal was partially upheld.

Surviving the threat of relegation will be extremely important for Everton ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, making a huge difference in the type of players they can attract to Merseyside.

Either way, Sean Dyche is in desperate need of more quality in attack. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have scored a combined season total of nine goals, with Abdoulaye Doucoure leading the goalscoring list in the Premier League with just six.

A new attacking midfielder could help create a better connection between defence and attack, hopefully bringing more goals to Goodison Park.

Ferguson, who has been lighting up Serie A this season, with six goals and three assists from midfield, is attracting plenty of attention, some of which is coming from the same league in Juventus.

With current manager Thiago Motta also linked with a move to Juventus, that seems the likeliest of transfers for Ferguson if he were to leave Bologna this summer.
