Everton make approach to sign Timothy Weah as 'significant' transfer outlay shared
Timothy Weah has again emerged as a target for Everton this summer, with Marseille's stance on his future clear.
The arrival of a new right-back could make or break Everton's summer, given that is where many of their issues stemmed from last season.
Jake O'Brien was forced to fill in there more often than not, severly limiting the threat that the Blues could pose on that side of the pitch.
Brook Norton-Cuffy was linked in January, but that move failed to materialise, with Weah's name also mentioned.
The USMNT international was a regular on loan for Marseille in Ligue 1, having started 26 of the 29 games that he featured in.
And that level of importance is set to be reflected by their asking price amid interest from Everton.
Marseille set out stall for Timothy Weah
Weah will seal a permanent move to Marseille initially this summer, though for how long remains to be seen.
The French outfit will pay around £15.5million for the defender, having agreed an obligatory clause as part of his loan.
However, that hasn't deterred Everton from making an approach, with Rudy Galetti reporting that they have requested an update on his future.
Marseille see him as a vital aspect to their ongoing project, but would consider a "signficant" offer if one was to be made.
As for what type of money that would involve, it remains to be seen, though the likelihood is that it would surpass £25m.
What would Weah bring to Everton?
Based on his season in France, plenty of attacking quality from the full-back areas, which is needed.
Weah averaged 1.15 chances created per 90 last season, which saw him rank among the top 27.1 per cent of Ligue 1 fullbacks.
His 29 shots taken demonstrate his willingness to have a pop, which was again something that the Toffees showed a lack of last term.
Given the emergence of his name again this summer, it's clear that he's rated highly by the Merseysiders, though whether that interest turns into something material remains to be seen.
