Everton may have Tim Iroegbunam escape route as Ipswich Town mull over transfer
Everton may have the chance to move Tim Iroegbunam on this summer, with newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town interested.
The Toffees are wanting to sign a new defensive midfielder this summer, but that could come at the expense of someone else.
Iroegbunam signed for the Blues in 2024 for a seven-figure fee of £9million, and Evertonians have yet to see him give confidence that he can be a quality Premier League player.
Surprisingly, the Tractor Boys have added the Englishman to their list of transfer options, with the player now valued at £20m, according to Ipswich Town News.
Everton could make £11m profit on Iroegbunam, and considering he’s yet to convince at Hill Dickinson, a £20m sale could look attractive.
Everton already have Tim Iroegbunam replacement
Everton knocked back offers for Iroegbunam in January, with interest from Lazio and others.
However, nothing came in that was close to his £20m valuation, as the Toffees didn’t have a clear replacement in mind either.
Fast forward just a couple of months, and Everton are leading the race for Middlesbrough’s Championship Player of the Year Hayden Hackney.
The Boro star would immediately fit into David Moyes’ starting eleven if he signed, and would push Iroegbunam further down the pecking order.
Everton have ambitions to become a top-end Premier League side, and to do so, they need to be ruthless moving forward, and that means capitalising in moments like these.
The Toffees have a glaring opportunity to pull off a financial miracle if Ipswich offer £20m, as they may be able to land Hackney for the same amount or less this summer.
There's a high chance that Hackney, James Garner, Idrissa Gana Gueye, and Merlin Rohl are all ahead of him in the pecking order next season.
These stats prove Iroegbunam needs to be sold
Everton really could pull off some shrewd summer business, with the likes of Dwight McNeill and Iroegbunam both valued at around £20m.
Even an offer of £15m could tempt the Toffees for the midfielder if the right add-ons were included.
Iroegbunam started 17 times, featuring in 29 Premier League games, and failed to make himself a cemented regular in the starting lineup.
His passing accuracy ranks on the lower spectrum for players in his position, with 81.4 per cent, and dribbling accuracy of 37.5 per cent is almost as bad.
It’s clear that Everton should move him on this summer and seek a replacement, whether that be Hackney or someone else.
