Everton meeting set as ideal Charly Alcaraz exit solution possibly found
Everton are set to hold talks with River Plate over a summer transfer for Carlos Alcaraz that could work for both parties.
Alcaraz only signed permanently at Hill Dickinson Stadium a year ago after a successful spell on loan.
However, the 23-year-old struggled to get much of a look-in under David Moyes last season.
He started just six Premier League matches, not helped by some niggling injury problems, while appearing 14 times as a substitute.
Alcaraz has been linked with a move away from Everton this summer and that now appears to be accelerating.
And a new report suggests Everton could get the best of both worlds if talks go well.
River Plate chiefs set for Everton talks over Charly Alcaraz
Alcaraz came through the youth ranks at Racing and has also previously played for Flamengo, so he is no stranger to club football on his home continent.
As per Soy Del Millo, River Plate have arranged a meeting with Everton for next week to discuss a deal for Alcaraz.
It is implied that River Plate will enquire about a loan move, with a fee, which would also likely benefit Everton.
Everton would still have Alcaraz on their books and potentially use him again in 2027-28, or sell for a higher fee than they could now if he succeeds in South America.
Should Alcaraz struggle out on loan, though, then the opposite is of course true.
River Plate are said to be preparing for a major overhaul this summer, with Alcaraz front and centre of their plans.
Everton may want to hold off on Alcaraz exit
Alcaraz offered little to Everton last season, but he was still called upon 20 times.
It is all well and good moving Alcaraz on, but Everton first need to find a replacement.
The former Argentina Under-21s international was a versatile squad member who Moyes would often turn to from the bench.
Everton quite simply need to bring in another player of a similar skillset, albeit an upgrade, before Alcaraz can pack his bags.
And even then they must ensure River Plate are picking up the player's wages and also handing over an upfront fee.
Should all that happen, this is a move that makes total sense.
