Everton have often been accused of standing still and not pushing for the top spots in the Premier League, and the Friedkin Group could change that.

Over the last few years, the Toffees have been held back by financial restrictions, with points deductions even being handed out for their struggles.

However, since the Friedkin Group has come in, those worries look to be subsiding, and it could allow the Blues to be more ambitious in the market.

Pushing for European places has to be the next step in the American owner’s plan in L3, and that goal was almost achieved.

Ultimately, a lack of decisive quality and perhaps leadership towards the end of the season ended those hopes. But an Everton move for Morten Hjulmand could correct that.

Why Morten Hjulmand would be a show of ambition for Everton

Other than the fact a move for Hjulmand could set Everton back £34.5million, the Dane would provide the qualities that Everton need in their squad.

At 26 years old, the Danish international is heavily experienced in the world of football. Throughout his career, he has played 357 games according to Transfermarkt.

Additionally, those also come with 29 games played across European competition, the destination that Everton are striving towards.

Moreover, Hjulmand would provide more leadership to the Everton squad, with previous comments from ex-manager Ruben Amorim coming to light.

As Amorim took charge of his last match in charge of Sporting in November 2024, he told reporters after the game ended 2-2: "It was a great goal by a fantastic player and captain who arrived at Sporting a year ago. During the break I heard him shouting in the dressing room."

Hjulmand could be the midfield general that Moyes needs in the centre of the pitch. Everton, however, are looking to sign Hayden Hackney, but that does not mean Hjulmand could not also arrive.

Everton need depth, and a trio of James Garner, Hackney and Hjulmand would be a set of players any manager would clamour for.

Why this summer is key for the Friedkin Group at Everton

The Friedkin Group have not been at Everton for long, but they are already entering a key period of their ownership.

Everton fans are desperate for success, and the only way to bring that to the Toffees is to be strong and decisive in the transfer market.

Hill Dickinson Stadium should allow the Blues more freedom in the market, with Everton already expected to break their record turnover in back-to-back years.

That should allow the US owners to invest more this forthcoming summer, and there are no excuses if they don’t.
