However, the Toffees do not want to loan him out and want him to continue his development at Goodison Park.

Having played only 26 minutes in the Premier League since his £17million move from Lyon [The Athletic], the 23-year-old will undoubtedly cut a frustrated figure.

While the club's desire to keep him for further development is understandable, the reality is that limited game time won't suffice for his growth, especially when compared to the regular minutes Michael Keane has been receiving.

At 23, the Republic of Ireland international is at a stage where consistent first-team football is crucial for his development.

If Sean Dyche cannot offer him assurances of increased playing time, O'Brien's ambition might lead him to seek a loan move in January.

Such a move would allow him to gain the experience needed in a competitive environment, potentially enhancing his skills and market value.
