Everton to have fire in their belly after what's been said about Lois Openda transfer
Everton "have the budget" to sign Lois Openda this summer, according to Malu Mpasinkatu.
And it is a transfer that would make some sense given the struggles the Toffees have faced in the final third over the last 12 months.
Neither Beto nor Thierno Barry have shown anywhere near enough to warrant either of them leading the line for Everton next season.
As a result, it's expected that the Merseysiders will be in the market for a new striker this summer, and likely as a priority.
That could potentially lead them to Openda, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.
However, while that may interest supporters in itself, the nature in which the transfer has been suggested is what should have Everton seething.
Everton need to prove people wrong next season
The issue isn't the way in which the journalist has suggested the transfer, but more so the manner in which he has spoken about Everton, as true as it may be.
Speaking via Radio Bianconera, Mpasinkatu said: "There are teams like Everton, average English teams that have the budget to buy Openda."
The use of the word average is what stands out the most, and for the most part, it's true.
Everton have faltered in their pursuit of progression over the last few years, only amplified by the fact that Jordan Pickford will have played the same number of seasons in Europe as Sunderland have.
And that is despite the fact they have been out of the Premier League for eight of the nine seasons he has spent on Merseyside.
Would Openda be a good signing for Everton?
Now, back to the original point made by the journalist, stating that Everton would be well-positioned financially to sign Openda.
If so, it would more than likely be a smart deal, given that he has what the Toffees lack in the final third.
Openda has the ability to get in behind defences, while also ontruting to games away from scoring goals, which is something both Beto and Barry have struggled to do.
As of now, there is no reports of genuine interest, though it could be one to keep an eye on as the summer transfer window progresses.
