Everton are understood to be eyeing a move for Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino.

The Blues are in the market for new attackers as Thierno Barry and Beto struggled to impress last season.

The latter got his act together towards the end of the campaign, finishing with nine goals in the Premier League.

However, that is not enough for a side that wants to be challenging for a European place.

The Toffees are one of several English clubs looking at the Argentine, with Newcastle and Brentford also interested.

David Moyes' side may have an advantage in the race for his signature, as their transfer rivals have been left in a bind.

What is the obstacle for Everton's Mateo Pellegrino rivals?

Everton face competition from sides in Italy as well as their domestic rivals for his services.

A report from SportParma claims that the financial strength of the Premier League cannot be underestimated if a concrete offer arrives.

It states that the Crusaders' £25.8million valuation will be a major obstacle for Serie A clubs, such as Bologna, Como and Fiorentina.

Why Everton should exercise caution with Pellegrino pursuit

Everton should be cautious before sanctioning a move for the forward, as his record does not stick out off the page.

The 24-year-old notched 12 goals and one assist in 39 matches in all competitions this past season, which is a solid return, but hardly spectacular.

For comparison, Barry scored 11 goals and bagged four assists for Villarreal before securing his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and that was in La Liga, which is a harder league.

That suggests that the former Velez Sarsfield man would have similar problems to the French Under-21 forward when it comes to adapting to the English game.

If that would be the case, then the Toffees must steer clear, as they need players who are ready to come and perform straight away, rather than wasting money on more project signings.

The striker market is particularly difficult at the moment, but surely, there are better options out there than Pellegrino, and the Blues should look elsewhere.

He does not look like he would swing the pendulum in their favour, if they brought him to L3 this summer.
