Everton transfer claim made as David Moyes spotted on Championship scouting trip

Everton manager David Moyes was pictured at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues are just off the back of a 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, with the Scotsman taking time out of his schedule to go on a scouting trip.

Everton are hoping to go one step further this season and finally make the jump back into European football.

One of the quickest ways to do so is by lifting the Carabao Cup.

Next up for Everton is a Carabao Cup tie against Wolves, Sheffield United's opposition on Sunday, which may explain his latest whereabouts.

However, a Sky Sports commentator suggests there may be another reason behind it.

What was said about David Moyes as Everton manager spotted at Bramall Lane

Moyes was present at Bramall Lane as Wolves secured a late 1-0 win away from home.

As relayed by Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver, Moyes tends to watch on at EFL stadiums, as it is a market he is fond of dipping into.

Speaking on the stroke of half-time between Sheffield United and Wolves, Weaver said when Moyes popped up on screen: "No surprise to see David Moyes at a Championship game, either.

"Because he does like to scout the Championship, to see what's happening and which players he could potentially sign."

Co-commentator and former Everton player Gary Rowett cheekily added: "I would think he would be watching the strikers."

However, with Everton set to take on Wolves on 16 September in the Carabao Cup, that was likely the extent of Moyes' visit to Bramall Lane.

Rather than any particular transfer scouting mission.

Everton are on one of the longest trophy droughts in the Premier League, and are looking to bounce back into European competition.

Winning the Carabao Cup would be killing two birds with one stone, so it is nice to see Moyes is taking the competition quite seriously by scouting the opposition.

The mistake Moyes cannot repeat vs Wolves

With Everton having a thin squad, the danger of Moyes getting complacent against Wolves may be slimmer this time around.

Last season, the Toffees were eliminated by the Old Gold in the Carabao Cup, and face the same outcome now.

Moyes made many plenty of changes last time around, with fringe members of the squad such as Seamus Coleman, Mark Travers and Charly Alcaraz starting.

Everton need to simply play their strongest side this time around, as winning silverware or getting as close to as possible must be the priority.
