Everton will be bringing in a defender next as the fifth signing of the transfer window, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports news editor took to X on 26 July to respond to questions about the Toffees' transfer activity.

Thus far, four players have been signed this summer, Jack Harrison, Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom.

When asked which position will the club sign next, Myers responded: "Defender"

Everton need a right-back to be the long-term replacement for Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman

The Toffees' need to prioritise signing a right-back next is crucial as Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman, the current fit options in that role are both in their late 30s and nearing the end of their careers.

This means that Everton urgently need a long-term replacement to ensure stability and continuity in the team.

It's important that the club bring in someone who's not just good going forward but also solid defensively.

Moreover, the Toffees' recent signings have mainly focused on strengthening their midfield and attack.

While these signings are important, the club also needs to ensure that they have a strong and balanced defence.

By signing a new right-back, the Merseyside outfit can address this need and ensure that they have a well-rounded squad capable of competing at the highest level.
