Alan Myers does not see Everton signing Brighton striker Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window.

The Sky Sports news editor responded on X on 15 January when asked about the links to the 20-year-old forward.

TBR Football reported on 14 January that the Toffees have made contact with Brighton over signing the Republic of Ireland international.

Myers wrote: "I don’t see that happening."

Everton must not consider signing Evan Ferguson

The 20-year-old is currently out with an ankle injury which will keep him out of action for a while so it's best to avoid signing him.

The Toffees already have injured attackers in Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja and need someone fit to come in.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have both struggled in front of goal and the lack of reliable options in the final third has partly contributed to the club's decline.

While Ferguson hit the ground running with Brighton, which led to Gary Lineker comparing him to Manchester City star Erling Haaland, he's just not managed to maintain that level of consistency.

“I do see a hint of Haaland about him. His stature and his movement and stuff like that and his youth as well," Lineker said on Match of the Day in 2023, as quoted by the Irish Independent.

He may still turn things around and become a quality striker in a year or two, but that is not Everton's lookout.

They're not in a position where they can gamble on someone to be good in the future as they need proven options who could make a difference right away.
