Beyond the deadline-day drama, the window's most contentious moment arguably came when the Merseyside outfit almost sold Harrison Armstrong.

Writing in BBC Sport on 10 September, Nevin said, "The summer transfer window was a shambles, leaving the club incredibly short on the pitch. While just about everyone else strengthened their squads noticeably, Moyes was left in limbo.

"There are massive gaps in the squad, meaning a viable first XI will be impossible if the team suffers only a couple of injuries. This isn't just likely, it is inevitable.

"The attempt to cash in on academy graduate Harrison Armstrong wasn't just naive, it was tone deaf to everyone else's feelings at the club - from the manager to the entire fanbase."

What TFG must do to win favour back at Hill Dickinson Stadium

TFG are looking for investment at Everton, possibly putting up a minority stake up for sale.

The American owners might not want to foot the bill for building a competitive team at the Toffees on their own.

For fans in L3, they just want to see their team make progress after years of having to witness relegation battles in Merseyside.

If the Blues somehow make it to January unscathed, TFG can't afford to let another transfer window go by without making adequate reinforcements to the squad.

Defensive depth and additional attacking quality should be the recruitment team's priority in the winter transfer window.

If the Friedkins want to calm the tension among the fanbase, then they need to show some courage and commitment in January.
