Mark Travers' Everton exit has faced a fresh twist with Wrexham in the mix.

The Republic of Ireland international has had little game time at Hill Dickinson Stadium over the last year.

Just two EFL Cup appearances were attached to his name, with the Toffees being knocked out of both cups early.

The 27-year-old could be tempted to seek an exit and restart his career as a number one elsewhere, and he has a few options.

Coventry City were said to be in the race for the Everton number two as well.

However, after a twist in Wrexham's pursuit of a goalkeeper, another door has opened up.

Why Wrexham have turned to Mark Travers after Pierce Charles setback

Wrexham want a goalkeeper this summer window and had looked to snap up Pierce Charles.

The Northern Irish international has rejoined Man City, and the Citizens wanted to send him out on loan.

A late swoop to take him on loan failed, with Charles linking up with QPR ahead of next season instead.

Now, Sky Sports News have reported that Wrexham's attention has turned to Everton's Travers due to those events.

However, he is not the only goalkeeper in the Welsh club's sights, with Anthony Patterson of Sunderland another name touted.

But, the report shares that Wrexham may not be able to afford the signing of Patterson, which would assuredly make Travers one of their prime candidates.

Everton look to be resigned to Travers departing at some point this summer transfer window.

The Toffees have been linked with several goalkeepers, including Karl Darlow, and most recently Everton have been mentioned to want Sam Johnstone.

Why a Mark Travers exit would suit Everton this summer

Travers, and in fact, any incoming goalkeeper, is unlikely to replace Jordan Pickford, but at 27 years old, the Irishman will be wanting more minutes.

With interest in more veteran shot-stoppers, the Toffees are likely to be seeking a number two that would be far more content with their limited game time than someone of Travers' age would.

Getting the Irishman off the books would allow the Blues to reinvest his wages into a goalkeeper that would fit that mould.

And at his age, staying at Everton does little for the number two's development in football.

Overall, a move away would suit all parties and potentially create a better dressing room harmony, as the likes of Johnstone would be happier with the role.
