How much Everton need to make to turn Mark Travers profit as Coventry want transfer
Mark Travers' time at Everton could be ending quite soon.
The Republic of Ireland international joined in the summer of 2025 for a deal worth £4million, coming in to provide competition for Jordan Pickford.
However, Travers' game time would be extremely limited with the Toffees being knocked out in the early stages of both cup competitions.
Now, the Everton number two has an exit route as Coventry add him to their shortlist.
After just one year at Hill Dickinson, the Blues will want to at least make money on their transfer
And here is how much would be required to turn that profit on Travers.
What is Mark Travers' current book value at Everton?
According to the Daily Mail, Coventry City have identified Travers as a target this transfer window.
The newly promoted Premier League side are looking to add strength in depth as former Everton boss Frank Lampard has another crack at Premier League success.
This move is said to be independent of their chase for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
On the surface, Everton paid £4m for Travers, so they would need to get £4m back to break even. But that is not the case.
In football, transfers are amortised over the course of a player's contract.
When he joined Everton, Travers signed a four-year deal. This means, his £4m fee will be amortised by £1m each year.
So, Everton would only need to bank £3m in order to break even on their finanical books, but anything above that would count as profit.
Why Travers should hold out for a better opportunity
While Everton will be happy to bank a profit on Travers, the goalkeeper moving to Coventry City may not be wise for his career.
With the Sky Blues still in the mix for Rushworth, the Irishman could find himself as a number two once more in the Premier League.
Travers is a quality shot-stopper, and more chances to leave are sure to come, especially at a side where he would get more game time.
Leaving Everton may have to be on the cards anyway, with the Toffees putting a contract the table for Karl Darlow.
The arrival of the Welshman would almost certainly end Travers' spell with the Toffees, having four goalkeepers at the club in that case.
It may have been a short-lived spell, but business-wise, if a profit is turned, there cannot be many complaints.
